| Whatever
we want. The Social Club exists to act as a catalyst to
organize and produce opportunities for an eclectic group of people
who share a similar goal – to exist actively and socially in
the great New York City and to take advantage of all it has to offer.
By planning collective rendezvous in random and varied locations,
the Club serves to motivate us to get up, go out, and enjoy the art,
culture, entertainment, food, drink, and people around us. It operates
within broad boundaries – there are no set expectations, there
are no minimum requirements – it is whatever we want it to be
– it plays backdrop to full lives, careers, and relationships
that we already maintain, and allows us to broaden our horizons in
a flexible and diverse way. |
Whenever
we want. Specifically, an initial goal of between 8-15 gatherings
a year seems reasonable and achievable. In our busy lives full of
responsibility and commitments, to meet once monthly would be an absolute
success. Dates will be proposed by anyone within the group, and likely
agreed upon by some number of members (in an attempt to insure a minimum
attendance), and would then be promoted to the rest of the Club –
attendance is of course, always absolutely optional. These meetings
exist solely as opportunities to be taken advantage of at will, not
as obligations. |
Wherever
we want. Specifically, the arena of our activities is the robust offerings
of NYC, and hundreds if not thousands of venues could play host to
our meets. While for some, the most ideal locations may exist inside
elegant super-venues smack in the middle of Manhattan, our ability
to secure such venues may often be limited. These gatherings are more
about the people than anything else – so lesser, smaller, and
more remote locations can also satisfy our needs. The apartments,
lofts, and homes of the members could serve to host a meet; theaters,
both private rooms and public spaces within bars and restaurants,
art galleries, nightclubs, eccentric retail locations, even Central
Park in the summer. Our ability to secure venues commercially may
increase as our member base grows and we contribute fiscal resources
to create more extensive productions – however – the ability
to rent a private lounge is inconsequential to the success of our
mission – which is simply to gather, anywhere. |
Whoever
we want and whoever wants to. At this point in time, The Social Club sees no utility in limiting participation in the Club
– it’s an open forum, for all who feel motivated to gather
and share and experience. Again, since the Club is entirely dependent
upon itself to determine its own fate, we may deem it necessary to
add some basic parameters in the future, but we see no immediate need
at the outset for anything of the sort. To the extent we experienced
malignant elements within our group, we would restrict access by ceasing
all promotion to those elements. |
However
we can. This is not a production company with extensive resources
– it is a Club by its members, for its members, and it exists
solely through the creativity, organization, and resources OF its
members. There are hundreds of ways to carry out activities in way
that allows access to a broad range of people, with a broad range
of creativity, ability, talents, contacts, etc. We intend to rely
on these human resources, not fiscal ones, to create a constant flow
of fresh experiences that appeal to the members of the Club. No suggestion
is wrong, no idea irrelevant – and often, the presentation of
these suggestions and ideas will offer other members an opportunity
to experience something new. Often food, drink, and entertainment
deals can be cut with venues, promoters, producers, etc if minimum
participation numbers are met (usually 20 or more). Exploring more
sophisticated means, including leveraging our own ability to promote
art, artists, musicians, theater troupes, venues, etc in exchange
for reduced or free admissions, and even the corporate sponsorship
angle could be pursued. Again, our minimum requirements are, in fact,
quite minimal, so these elements are potential upgrades, not barriers
to entry. |
It’s an excuse to get out and spend time with each other,
and to do so in the context of this great city we live in. If we
can organize ourselves to get together once a month, the rest will
follow. To the extent we did create a consistent and successful
Club, leveraging the collective resources of the group to pursue
grander aspirations could be considered, but clearly is no part
of any initial plan. For now the goals are clear and simple: let's
get out and do something! Send
