| Independent
film. Ah, the great, liberating, and free form of expression
- with the latest advents in technology, it has allowed filmmakers
an incredible level of freedom to create. The rigid boundaries limiting
the filmmakers of yore (say, 5 years ago) have all but vanished. Creators
without the benefit of studio dollars make up the scene - with their
unique and intriguing perspectives, creative financing schemes, and
without studio-houses to appease, they reach diverse, multi-ethnic
audiences and offer dynamic missions and visions; they exist inside
an industry whereby a movie is made for the very love of the language,
the art - to make film; and is done so by each individual filmmaker
leveraging networks of hundreds of friends, helpers, and associates
who in one way or another, just get it.
That's independent film.
KeMeK believes in indie film, and we participate
in it. This new section of our site will constantly develop
- it is a living document that will find it self morphing many times,
we're sure. It is a commentary, a guide, a snapshot. We hope you
it enjoy it and find it useful as it unfolds. If you have any ideas,
suggestions, comments, or would otherwise like to write some words
and then send them to someone, please, feel free: indie-film@kemek.com

The
Festival Rag,
a [once] new online periodical dedicated to true independent filmmaking
and filmmakers is broadcast to thousands of media-industry subscribers.
The monthly newsletter picks up the buzz on the indie fare now showing
at film festivals worldwide, and shines fresh light on the festivals
themselves, which celebrate the best in breakout screen entertainment.
The Rag features occasional interviews with the
brave new filmmakers at the vanguard of independent cinema, as well
as the bold festival programmers who showcase their work to the
hungry indie world.
[The Rag, much to the dismay of its millions of dedicated fans, is presently defunct - we had a good run - thank all of you for your support and contributions. FYI, the possibility of reviving the Rag has been whispered at the water cooler.] |

The mainstream.
For the record, we have no idea what that is - and we're sure that conventions of past can no longer be used to define it. Today, alternative is mainstream, for example - and we think that is a conundrum, or an oxymoron, or parapraxis, or something like that. But clearly, the mainstream is not indie. Well, it's not really indie. Well, sometimes, it's sorta indie.
And so, here on the Independent Film page we present a link to the portals which connect the masses to entertainment. They are the biggest and most definitive authorities on entertainment in its most broad sense - they provide the headlines, gossip, predictions, reviews, plans, releases, and commentaries on and for the largest entertainment enterprises in the nation. They feed the greater populace content and keep the industry folks in the know. Find below, in no particular order, a sampling of industry publications, broadcast-websites, and online portals all with a similar purpose - to wax poetic (or even just to wax) about entertainment. |
